A stack of the books I read in Q3 on a wooden bench with a cuppa just visible. In the background are plants and pictures on the wall

Q3 book reviews are in! It was filled with some corkers.

Let’s do this:

🤖 Tomorrow x3.
Wow. I found it via Bill Gates summer reads recommendations. Smart coder-girl meets smart and disabled coder-boy. They learn, they grow, they fuck up. It’s brilliant.

🇫🇷 The Paris Apartment.
Modern day crime worthy of Christie. Foly takes a cast of characters, a location and destruction ensues. Brutal.

🪄 Magic Words.
An interesting read for communicators who want to understand the power of certain words or phases.

🟡 Yellowface.
Modern and spikey. Was this how Becky Sharp was received when Vanity Fair first came out? The story of two writers whose lives are deeply intertwined as friendship and rivalry blurs. It gets a bit baggy in the middle and then picks up to a thrilling end.

🌎 Citizens.
Superb book examining how we need to prioritise being citizens rather than consumers in modern society. Outstanding.

🦌 The Hunting Party.
More Foly. Another group. A new location. More brutality. This time testing the oldest of friendships.

🤔Radical Curiosity.
Best book I’ve ever read. Hands down. Go slow. Savour. Reflect. Make notes. So much to inspire and admire.

🟰The Solutionists.
Practical guide to what you can do to support climate and social work. No nonsense ideas. Very accessible.

🧐Do Interesting.
A bit like the kids programme from the 70s “Why don’t you” in book form. Filled with tips and tricks to evade the mundane.

🦊 The Last Devil to Die.
I bloody love this group of OAP sleuths solving crime and being brilliant. Life lessons and so much warmth.

🌟 Do Hope.
Second “do” book of the quarter and an incredible tale
of resilience, strength and determination. The good kind and not the toxic BS we often hear bandied around.

I am still working on Sapiens. It’s huge and meaty. It’ll take time and I haven’t read The Guest List yet. That many in such close succession was feeling a bit formulaic so I needed a break. But I had to grab a pic before some went back to the library. And Paris Apt is missing from the pics as a friend borrowed it.

Currently on rotation for early Q4 — Right Kind of Wrong, Whalebone Theatre and Thinking in Systems. 💚🐋 🔄

If you’re inspired to read any of these, I’d love to hear what you think.

Happy reading!
